Results: A sulfated polysaccharide mainly from brown seaweeds, consisting of a pyranofucose backbone and several monosaccharides, fucoidan possesses a variety of biological activities such as anticancer, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antiviral, antithrombotic, and anti-inflammatory properties. In this thesis, the authors describe information about fucoidan green extraction methods, purification, and structural analysis. They also discuss the factors affecting the bioactivity of fucoidan. The structure complexity of fucoidan depends on factors such as species, source, and harvest time. In turn, this greatly affects the bioactivity of fucoidan, with high sulfation and low molecular weight being particularly associated with increased bioactivity. The presence of a sulfated fraction makes fucoidan easy to interact with other polymers and has far-reaching applications.

Applications

  • Marine glycans and glycoproteins bioactivity analysis service can be used in the development of blood coagulants and anti-tumor, anti-diabetic, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Marine glycans have a variety of biological activities, which are closely related to the structural characteristics of the glycans such as degree of polymerization, monosaccharide composition, and sequence, and the number and position of modifying groups. Therefore, the bioactivity analysis of marine glycans can be used for the development of glycans with special properties.
  • The bioactivity analysis of marine glycans can be used for the research of active polysaccharide components in various marine organisms.
