Marine Carbohydrate Modification Service

Marine Carbohydrate Modification Service at CD BioGlyco

CD BioGlyco offers a wide range of carbohydrate modification services. Carbohydrates are readily available from various marine sources. They exhibit biological properties and multiple advantages that make them useful in biomedicine, biotechnology, etc. Their physical and biological activities are based on their molecular structure. We offer marine carbohydrate modification services based on different methods to broaden the application of marine carbohydrates and to assist our clients in tissue engineering research.

The chemical structure of carbohydrates determines their physical properties, conformation, biological activity, etc. Our modification of the chemical structure of marine carbohydrates includes three main types: conjugation with polymers, chemical modification, and enzymatic modification. The modified carbohydrates will have specific changes in the absorption capacity, solubility of metal ions, etc.

Our three types of modifications to the chemical structure of marine carbohydrates:

  • Marine Carbohydrate-Polymer Conjugation Service: We provide conjugation services of marine carbohydrates to a wide range of polymers (both natural and synthetic polymers), such as conjugation to polyethylene glycol, and more.
    • Chitin-Polymer Conjugation Service
    • Chitosan-Polymer Conjugation Service
  • Chemical Modification of Marine Carbohydrates: Chemical modification is widely used to improve carbohydrates. We offer chemical modification services for marine carbohydrates including Schiff base reaction, quaternization, carboxymethylation, acylation, etc.
    • Chemically Modification of Chitosan
    • Chemically Modification of Fucosylated Chondroitin Sulfate
  • Enzymatic Modification of Marine Carbohydrate: Enzymes are specific for better control of the catalyzed reaction. We offer several types of marine carbohydrate enzymatic modification services.

Our goal is to give new properties or enhance existing activities through structural modifications. All our derivatives are characterized by mass spectrometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and so on.

Results: In this study, fucoidan from Fucus evanescens was enzymatically modified using recombinant fucoidanase. By enzymatic cleavage, fucoidan was cleaved into a polymeric fraction (HMP) with 50.8 kDa molecular weight and low molecular weight products (LMP). The results showed that HMP has a regular structure. Its anticancer activity was slightly lower than that of fucoidan. The present study provides a feasible method for the modification of fucoidan. Conventional and more easily characterized fucoidan derivatives can be obtained by this method.
