Protochordate-derived Lectin Production Service

Protochordate-derived Lectin Production Service

Ensuring Quality of Protochordate-derived Lectin Through Efficient Production

The protochordate-derived lectin has good biological activity, which is valuable in biomedical and immunological research. CD BioGlyco provides a one-stop protochordate-derived lectin production service from customized protocols, extraction, and purification to characterization. Our service applies to all types of protochordates such as amphioxus. Whether it is the production of protochordate-derived lectin or the application guidance, we guarantee 100% client satisfaction.

Our experienced Marine Lectin research experts are responsible for the entire experiment design and production. The production steps are as follows:

Extraction

We obtain crude extracts of lectins from ascidians, amphioxus, etc., and most of the impurities are removed by centrifugation.

Purification

We use affinity chromatography to purify protochordate-derived lectin lectin based on its carbohydrate-binding properties.

Characterization

Protochordate-derived lectin has novel structural and functional properties. We have a variety of state-of-the-art equipment to perform detailed characterization of purified lectins, including structure and biological activity.

  • Analysis of the molecular weight and structure
  • Analysis of the amino acid composition of the lectin by amino acid analyzer and mass spectrometry
  • Analysis of the carbohydrate-binding specificity of the lectin by measuring the ability to agglutinate erythrocytes
  • Bioactivity analysis includes the study of protochordate-derived lectin in immunization, interaction with pathogens, and other aspects.

Based on our rich experience in the Production of Marine Biomolecules, we help our clients understand the structure, function, mechanism of action, and potential applications of protochordate-derived lectin.

Results: In this study, the subcellular distribution of Botryllus schlosseri rhamnose-binding lectin (BsRBL) during the immune response was examined by microscopy, and immunocytochemistry was performed using specific polyclonal antibodies produced against purified BsRBL. The results show that BsRBL is located on the surface of phagocytes and is involved in phagocytosis. It may play a role in cyclic generational changes. This study provides a demonstration of the in-depth characterization of protochordate-derived lectin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of lectins are contained in protochordate-derived lectin?

Lectins homologous to lectins in mammals have been identified and described from protochordate, including rhamnose-binding lectin, C-type lectin, and galectin. The galactose-specific lectin in ascidian has been characterized in detail. Similar to lectins in other organisms, protochordate-derived lectins are involved in several biological processes, which makes them interesting research objects and biotechnological tools to be used to study immunoregulatory mechanisms, evolutionary biology, etc.

What is the significance of studying lectins in the ascidian?

Ascidian is a key taxon in the phylogeny of chordate phylogenesis and an important model organism for developmental, evolutionary, immunobiological studies, etc. Galactose-specific lectins and rhamnose-binding lectins have been isolated from ascidians, and most of them are involved in immune recognition, which has been used to study the evolution of the immune system, cell-cell interactions, and signaling pathways.
