Unlocking the Power of Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) Characterization

GAG exists in the tissues of most marine animals, has structural diversity, and participates in a variety of biological functions. Their structural analysis is essential for understanding their conformational relationships and biological functions. CD BioGlyco provides a high-quality, customized GAG characterization service to assist in a variety of scientific research. Combined with our extensive experience in the Characterization of Marine Animal Polysaccharides, we offer flexible solutions and ensure 100% client satisfaction.

We analyze and purify GAG from the tissues of various marine organisms and perform detailed characterization of their composition, structure, and properties. Combined with comprehensive and advanced analytical techniques and methodologies, we offer the services specified below:

Extraction and Purification of GAG

There are many ways to isolate GAG from various marine tissues. We combine various strategies to prepare high-quality GAG. Based on our extensive experience in marine polysaccharide extraction, we have optimized our experimental procedures to ensure that we provide the best GAG preparation solution. After chemical and enzymatic extraction, we remove impurities such as proteins, peptides, and small molecules from the crude GAG extract by salt precipitation and chromatography to facilitate subsequent characterization and bioactivity analysis.

Characterization

GAG-mediated biological functions are achieved through a variety of structural properties, such as glycosidic bond type, molecular weight, composition, and sulfation. We incorporate a variety of advanced analytical techniques to understand the structural characteristics of GAGs to help fully understand the functional roles they play. These techniques include liquid chromatography (LC), mass spectrometry (MS), infrared spectroscopy (IR), etc. They are versatile methods for determining molecular weight, monosaccharide composition, type and position of functional groups, GAG sequences, and more.

Bioactivity Analysis

GAG is rich in biological activities and has important applications in biomedicine and biomaterial preparation. We offer flexible bioactivity evaluation and program design to meet a wide range of client research needs.

Results: This paper summarizes the recent advances in the analysis of GAGs by MS. GAGs have a variety of structural features that make their analysis difficult. With the development of technology, the application of MS in the structural analysis of GAG has been widely studied. This paper describes in detail the GAG sample preparation for MS analysis, compositional analysis, disaccharide analysis, and mass spectrometry data analysis software developed. With a variety of separation techniques that can be combined with MS, more complex samples can be explored to determine sequence and compositional information in a reasonable time frame.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the biological functions of GAG?

The different sulfation patterns on the GAG chain give rise to its structural and functional diversity. It is responsible for protein interactions and extracellular signaling and has a major impact on the regulation of cellular processes and the development of various diseases.

How to prepare samples for MS analysis?

GAG is usually found in the form of proteoglycans and samples are usually prepared for MS analysis by isolation from proteins (complete protein digestion or β elimination). In addition to this, GAG is a long polymer that is too complex and heterogeneous to be analyzed in its intact form. For ease of analysis, intact GAG chains are also commonly analyzed by chemical or enzymatic digestion into smaller oligosaccharides.

The structural diversity of GAG is the basis for its wide range of biological activities. CD BioGlyco provides a reliable and accurate GAG characterization service for life science research, biomedicine, biomaterials, and other areas of research. Welcome to contact us for more information if you need to analyze GAG.
