Pectin Characterization Service

Pectin Characterization Service

Dive into Precision with Our Marine Pectin Characterization Service

At CD BioGlyco, we are thrilled to introduce our Marine Carbohydrate Characterization Services, which are designed to meticulously analyze and decode the complex carbohydrates derived from marine sources. Within this broad spectrum of services, we have a specialized focus on Marine Plant Polysaccharide Characterization Services, which include an even more specialized subset: pectin characterization service.

Pectin, a key polysaccharide found in marine plant cell walls, plays numerous functional roles in food, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. Our service provides an exhaustive analysis of pectin's composition, structure, and functional properties, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies.

Characterization methods of pectin. (CD BioGlyco)

Molecular Weight Distribution Determination

We use gel permeation chromatography (GPC) technology, combined with a laser light scattering detector (LALLS) and differential refractometer (RI) to accurately measure the molecular weight and distribution range of marine pectin. In addition, the molecular weight of partially degraded or specially treated samples can also be evaluated by the sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) method.

Chemical Structure Analysis

We use Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to analyze the functional group information of marine pectin, including the presence and distribution of key groups such as methoxy and carboxyl. At the same time, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) technology, such as 1H NMR and 13C NMR, is used to reveal its fine chemical structure, including glycosidic bond type, substitution pattern, etc.

Purity and Impurity Analysis

We evaluate the purity of marine pectin and detect possible impurities by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with an ultraviolet detector (UV) or evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD).

Physicochemical Property Testing

Our physicochemical property testing includes viscosity measurement (using a rotational viscometer), rheological analysis (understanding its flow behavior under different conditions), and solubility testing to fully evaluate its processing and application performance.

Functional Evaluation

Based on client needs, we also evaluate the biological activity of marine pectin, such as antioxidant capacity, immunomodulatory activity, and its stability testing under specific conditions (such as pH stability and thermal stability).

Results: The authors conducted a study on the isolation and structural characterization of pectin from three Vietnamese seagrass species: Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, and Halophila ovalis. They determined the physicochemical properties of the pectin, including total carbohydrate content, anhydrouronic acid content, equivalent weight, methoxyl content, and degree of esterification, using various analysis techniques. The authors analyzed the average molecular weight of the pectin through size-exclusion chromatography. Additionally, they found that the pectins from all three seagrass species exhibited high antioxidant activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the characteristics of marine pectin?

Marine pectin, as a natural polysaccharide of marine origin, has a variety of unique biochemical properties. Its primary characteristics are its high molecular weight and complex molecular structure, which give it excellent water solubility, gel-forming ability, and stability. In addition, marine pectin also contains abundant galacturonic acid residues, which enable it to interact with other biomolecules, such as forming complexes with proteins or acting as substrates for enzymatic reactions. These characteristics make marine pectin have broad application prospects in the fields of food industry, biomedicine, cosmetics, and environmental protection.
