Galactan Production Service

Galactan Production Service

Unrivaled Galactan Production Partner for Your Marine Biomolecule Research

With the help of our high-yield production team and advanced Marine Biomolecule Production technology, CD BioGlyco provides our clients with high-yield Marine Carbohydrate Production services such as Marine Plant Polysaccharide Production, Marine Animal Polysaccharide Production, and Marine Microbial Polysaccharide Production. Galactan consists of alternating (1→3)-β-d-galactopyranose residues and (1→4)-α-galactopyranose residues. Marine algae are excellent sources of pyruvate galactan and pyruvate arabinogalactan sulfate.

Our lab provides one-stop galactan production services including isolation, purification, structural characterization, and activity testing.

Galactan extraction

  • CD BioGlyco provides galactan extraction from different marine plants. You choose to give us the raw material for extraction or specify the raw material to be collected and extracted by us. For the collection of marine plants, our researchers separate them from other species and dry them. The dried plant is cut into small pieces and incubated in a buffer containing Enzymes. The supernatant is collected by filtration and the residue is washed through secondary filtration. Then we mix the two supernatants.
  • Our researchers use the precipitation method to obtain polysaccharides by standing at room temperature. We obtain the crude polysaccharide by multiple washing, solubilization, centrifugation, and drying.

Galactan purification and analysis

  • CD BioGlyco provides Chromatography Purification of crude polysaccharides. We use high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the efficient separation of crude polysaccharides. Our professional chromatography team optimizes the elution gradient, buffer ratio, flow rate, column temperature, and other influencing factors according to the characteristics of marine polysaccharides to ensure the best separation effect.
  • For the isolation of collected galactan, we offer a rapid assay by 1,9-dimethyl methylene blue and phenol-H2SO4 reactions.
  • With a specialized glycobiology platform, we offer galactan analysis services by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), agarose gel electrophoresis, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Moreover, we offer conformational determination and linkage analysis services.
  • Our lab provides galactan anticoagulant action analysis services by activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) assay.

Results: In this work, the researchers obtained two sulfated and pyruvated galactans from green seaweed Caulerpa cupressoides by isolation, extraction, and purification. The researchers characterized the results and found that the structures of these two co-galactans are similar, with the difference lying in the sulfation at the 4-position. Moreover, the researchers analyzed the immunological activity of the galactan was analyzed by cellular experiments. Overall, these two galactans can be used as potential therapeutic tools for the development of new immunomodulatory products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are common methods of producing galacto-oligosaccharides?

Production of oligosaccharides using polysaccharide depolymerization includes physical, chemical, or enzymatic methods. Enzymatic methods mainly utilize polysaccharide-cleaving enzymes to degrade high molecular-weight polysaccharides. Physical methods such as microwave treatment can be used to produce a variety of low molecular-weight polysaccharides with anti-tumor activity. Chemical methods mainly depolymerize polysaccharides by acid treatment.

What is the biological activity of sulfated galactans?

Sulfated galactoglucan has antiviral activity, anti-metastatic activity, anti-angiogenic activity, anti-inflammatory activity, anti-coagulant activity, anti-adhesive activity, and anti-thrombotic activity.

CD BioGlyco has experienced marine carbohydrate specialists to provide the most satisfactory solutions for our clients. Our staff have mature industry experience, effectively solving the doubts in marine carbohydrate production. Please feel free to contact us.
