Plaxyloside is a glycolipid from marine sponges, consisting of C35 linear polysome retinoid alcohol aglycone and a linear carbohydrate chain of 6 β-xylopyranose units. At CD BioGlyco, we are dedicated to research on the Production of Marine Biomolecules, have mastered the advanced technology for the Production of Marine Glycolipids, and offer personalized solutions for the production of plaxyloside to clients all over the world.
Firstly, we crush the sponge and then extract the cypress glycosides sequentially using methanol and chloroform. Next, all the extracts are combined and then distributed in specific solvents. Finally, the organic phase is collected and concentrated under a vacuum to obtain the crude cedrin (oil).
We use continuous column chromatography for the purification of plaxyloside. Firstly, plaxyloside is initially purified on silica gel column chromatography using CHCl3 as the eluent. Next, the plaxyloside-containing fractions are subjected to secondary purification on a SiO2 column, which removes non-glycolipid substances. After a series of purification operations, the plaxyloside-containing eluate is collected and the solvent is removed under vacuum to obtain pure plaxyloside (amorphous solid).
The physicochemical properties of plaxyloside affect its function, we carry out the characterization of plaxyloside from multiple angles to help our clients gain a deeper understanding of plaxyloside.

Results: In this article, the authors show the extraction method, as well as the structural features of plaxyloside. Plaxyloside was extracted and isolated from the sponge Plakortis simplex by researchers using solvent extraction, and its structure, was determined by chemical methods such as NMR. The results of structural analyses showed that plaxyloside is a glycolipid with linear polyisoprenoid alcohol aglycone and a linear carbohydrate chain of β-xylopyranose units. In addition, plaxyloside is the first naturally occurring oligosaccharide discovered that contains more than three (1→3) linkages.
